What can I say about Andreas Trussat?
It's strange to write about someone so close to me.
I think the best way to describe him is to say that he is all!
All that I need. All that I want.
Next to being such a special and good friend he is an amazing teacher.
Fun but serious, gentle but hard, loving but critical.
And as we know, there is no sunshine without the rain and that depicts the essence of his work.
To live life fully takes effort, heartache and pain. The reward is lots of energy and love for ones self and others.

I read that the word Yoga has many meanings, apparently it does many different things for different people. To me it means to connect because it makes me feel connected, connected to myself, connected to my circle of friends and family, my history and my future.

It was necessity that brought me back to yoga. In the last ten years I drifted from one yoga class to another; never finding inspiration, satisfaction or a desire to continue, but inexplicably always drawn back to it. Only to be disappointed again.
Then I pinched a nerve in my back and after two years I continued to experience pain in my shoulder and back. I was advised to stretch, which was the ultimate signal for me to return to yoga, but I had not managed to find the inspiration to keep me motivated. I dreaded doing something that I had

That unexpected but greatly appreciated healing touch encapsulates the feeling of his classes: you may be the least bendy person in the room, but you know you are wanted, appreciated and celebrated. And that feeling of inner calm continues until the next class. This is such an important part of my life. It is such an intense pleasure. I am unable to imagine living without it.

I could sum up my experience with Andreas' yoga class in two short sentences:

I suspect Andreas puts a spell on you the first time you walk into his class.
After that you can't do anything but come back.

The last years I was given the opportunity to meet some very special people. One of them definitely is Andreas, but what can you say about this remarkable person? That he’s the one who always makes you laugh whatever (yoga-) position you're in?! Even if you think you're not able to breath (in a position like Halasana) its always possible to smile just because of one of his typical comments during class.
With Andreas its something like “you either love him or you cant handle the truth”. It is an openness that is accepted but above all appreciated. Andreas for me is the only one who’s allowed to point out my new love handles and say that I look Shitty that day. Because with this honesty there comes also a lot of care.
He teaches you what the yoga-positions tells you about yourself. Andreas is definitely the conscience of my wellbeing and the fitness of my body, and within 90 minutes, during yoga-class, he is able to take care off body and soul.

Since a year and a half I am following the yoga classes of Andreas. I have to go at least once a week. It is a weekly time-out for me. By concentrating on the physical exercise, it has become a resting-time for my mind. For me, the flow of stance and movement is a great way to de-stress. There are many easy and difficult exercises, but both at the beginning and now it was possible to adjust them to my own level. The progress can be felt each time; just by making the effort to do it as good as I can, the border shifts. Andreas is a very good teacher, with the right combination of voice, technical remarks, jokes, and strict taskmaster ship.
Retreat
In May 2008 I also joined the retreat organized by Andreas. It was exiting but also a bit intimidating to join an unknown group to spend a week in an unusual manner together. It was very intensive, but with a good balance between physical exercise, thinking and conversations. Through the setting and the choice of participants (and the choice by the participants) it was at the same time very
comfortable with much laughter and teasing, physically very satisfying, with great food and deep talks. The teaching part of the retreat was composed of two daily sessions with a variation of discussion and yoga-exercises. I am joining again this year!

When I first came to Splash I was sceptical about yoga lessons given in gyms. So I waited a while. After a friend said to me that we should try the yoga lessons on Sunday afternoon. The first moment I sat on my mat and Andreas started the session I was sold. The energy in the room was comforting and I really felt I was giving my soul and body a present. The way Andreas speaks and the effort he puts info his students is refreshing. Anyway, I knew this was going to be the first of many yoga lessons....

The teacher
My very first class with Andreas was very special. I had stopped yoga for almost a year but had sensed the urge to reconnect again with my innerself...Yoga was calling me and it did through Andreas. I instantly felt at ease with his teaching and energy. I experienced for the first time what it felt to be helped and assisted physically by a teacher. It had been a wonderful experience and still is to sense the nurturing, sound knowledge and care of Andreas teaching.
The Yoga retreat
I had my very first yoga retreat with Andreas in Ibiza. There are many things I could nicely comment on, starting with the beauty of the venue and location, the perfectly well arranged and organized agenda, the laughter's and sometimes the tears of joy, getting to know for the first time the bliss of a mantra..... but more than anything, this retreat felt to me like a journey back home, or better put a reminiscence of how it felt to be at home again.

What I appreciate the most about him is the combination of someone who can talk for hours of Prada shoes and the latest trends but in the meanwhile also can discuss the depths of spirituality. I love him for that:-)

There comes a moment in each of our lives in which you want internal balance, harmony and peace. Lots of us wander the earth searching for this through out of a lifetime. With Yoga I found out that there is not much to look for as all of it resides in ourselves. When I am practicing my Yoga I experience a range of emotions, from sadness to a blissful feeling of joy. Sometimes it is short lived, sometimes I can carry it with me for a day or two. What does this do to me? It makes me realize that everything I need, I already have. That my life is what it is because it is the path that I need to follow. Once I started to realize this I suddenly felt free......did not feel the need to fight for everything in life as I know it will come to me when it needs to come to me. Yoga helps me to open up my body, to breath lighter and by doing so experience my emotions in a pure way.
So what does this have to do with Andreas. Andreas is fierce, dramatic, to the point and is not afraid to help you experience that what you need to experience in his class. He combines spirituality and Christmas songs with his Yoga practice bringing you in different stages of being. All of this with music and his unique personality.
During our planned yoga retreat in May 2009 in Ibiza, I hope to do more self-discovery under the guidance of Andreas.

My experience with Ashtanga yoga
I will never forget how Andreas persuade me and seduced me into the world of yoga. He invited me for a private yoga session at his place.
Right from the start he gave me so much attention and such overwhelming warm love that during my very first sun salutation spontaneously my spine cracked open.
I became aware of an enormous energy flow like a snake finding his way out…
All the way to the top.
I started to cry inside...
I truly wasn’t aware of this blockage and there are many more to face and to relief!
